Located in the historic Finlayson area of Tampere, Uumen Hotels brings together Scandinavian minimalism, functionality, and a strong sense of calm. Material selection played a central role in achieving a serene yet durable interior environment, especially in high-use areas such as corridors and guest rooms. To support this vision, the project integrates Formica® laminates in public circulation spaces with Arpa® surfaces in the hotel rooms.

Creating a Soothing Corridor Experience with Formica Laminate

Decor and texture: F7837ML Graphite Monolith
Application: Hotel corridor walls

Hotel corridors are typically transitional spaces, but at Uumen Hotels they are designed as part of the overall guest experience. Graphite Monolith from the Formica® Patterns Collection, was selected for corridor wall surfaces to create a refined, calming atmosphere that gently guides guests to their rooms.

The decors stone-inspired character introduces a natural visual rhythm without overpowering the space. Its balanced liveliness works in harmony with the corridor lighting design, allowing the laminate surfaces to respond softly to light throughout the day.

Corridor Walls

“We chose the Graphite Monolith surface because we wanted to bring a subtle, natural, and calming feel to the hotel corridors—one that helps guests settle into a serene atmosphere.”

Corridors are subject to constant use, luggage traffic, and cleaning cycles. Formica Laminate has a proven performance in hospitality environments, ensuring a surface that maintains its appearance over time with minimal maintenance.

Arpa®: Warmth and Texture in Guest Rooms

Decor and texture: 4520 Rovere Asburgo Naturale in Alevé finish
Application: Interior surfaces in hotel rooms

In the guest rooms, the design focus shifts towards a natural look and feel. Arpa high quality surfaces were selected to balance tactile warmth with the durability required in compact hotel accommodations.

The wood-inspired Rovere Asburgo Naturale decor introduces a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, perfectly aligned with the Scandinavian design language of freshness, simplicity, and understated warmth.

Guest Rooms

“We used Arpa laminate on the interior surfaces of our hotel rooms because we wanted the durability of laminate combined with a natural look and feel.”

The Alevé finish elevates and enhances the decor design with a realistic wood texture. In a hospitality setting where guests interact closely with surfaces, the tactile experience becomes just as important as the visual one.

“I believe that part of the reason our small rooms have received such positive feedback is precisely the naturally cozy material that supports the clean, minimalist design.”

Result

Despite their compact size, the rooms feel warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, demonstrating how material choice can significantly influence perceived space and guest satisfaction.

A Cohesive Material Story

Together, Formica laminates and Arpa Surfaces support Uumen Hotels in creating an environment where laminate materials quietly enhance comfort, longevity and visual harmony, allowing guests to experience calm Nordic warmth from corridor to room.
